Dealers Protest MGM Foxwoods Casino Opening

Last Sunday saw approximately 300 casino dealers hold a protest in front of the largest casino in the United States, the MGM Foxwoods hotel and casino in CT.

The rally was held due to a lack of a labor contract which was aggravated by the casino’s recent refusal to recognize the election of a worker’s union on the grounds of tribal sovereignty.

In a statement to pokernews.com, Jacqui Little, a poker dealer from Foxwoods, said, "We organized this union last year because Foxwoods was eroding our health insurance and other benefits. We got together because we were tired of having no recourse whatsoever when Foxwoods disciplined us unfairly or just changed benefits to whatever they wanted them to be on any given day."

In a statement to a Connecticut paper, Tribal spokesman Bruce MacDonald spoke on what he called the, “Visibility Protest,” saying, “What you're looking at is a lack of respect for tribal law and a publicity stunt.”
