The Casino Player's Guide to Scotch

Looking for a good scotch to enjoy while you play blackjack? Look no further.

If you want to look like you know what you’re doing just sip your scotch and then say any of the following words: leafy, nutty, leathery or fruity. If you actually want to understand and experience the exultation possible as a true scotch aficionado, you’re going to have to spend some dough and train your palette. Don’t forget when trying these that your nose plays as big a role in the enjoyment of scotch as your tongue does. Your olfactory senses are far more sensitive and a good sniff will help you to isolate flavors when you drink it.

Glenlivet is a good solid 12-year-old single malt. It’s a great starter’s scotch as it’s mellow and smooth which means it doesn’t have much of an alcoholic taste or burn. Look for flavors of sherry and butterscotch. I like to add a little water to many different scotches and this is one of them. Don’t let your know-it-all friend suggest that you’re watering-down the flavor by doing this. In many scotches it actually helps to open up the flavors.
