Critics all but clubbed film goers over the head and ordered them to avoid wasting their money on “10,000 BC”. Not many listened. The flick grossed $61 million in worldwide ticket sales in its opening weekend, topping the box office.
Set in the prehistoric world and taking many liberties with actual events (as Hollywood has done for decades with caveman pics), “10,000 BC” got $35.7 million of its sales in North America. Some guy named Steven Strait stars in the film, which was directed by Roland Emmerich. His last film, “Day After Tomorrow”, was also widely panned for its over-the-top gimmickery.
Second at the box office was another debut, “College Road Trip”, which drew $14 million.
Next week’s most anticipated debuts are action flick “Doomsday” and the Dr. Seuss kids movie “Horton Hears a Who”.
