Toronto, Ontario—Even though the city of Toronto was paralyzed, thanks to one of the fiercest snow storms, hundreds of fans and music lovers came out to see who would win Bodog Battle’s Canadian regional finals over the weekend at Jeff Healey’s Roadhouse Bar & Grill. Still, all 14 bands were able to make it on stage to battle it out for the chance to win a $1 million recording contract with Bodog Music.

And who was the winner who took it all? A young, four-piece alternative-rock band from Hamilton, Ontario, called 40 Sons and Daughters.

From Vancouver’s West Coast to Halifax’s East Coast, thousands of bands entered Bodog Battle, but evidently, 40 Sons and Daughters had the songwriting chops and “it” factor to take them all the way. The high energy group had great stage presence and was confident from the get-go that they could win. The crowd went wild when Mike, the lead singer, took the stage. Christiano, Graeme and the “other Mike” added bass, drums and guitar for support. Some of the other notable acts of the night included Vancouver’s Whitfield, a Brit-rock, all boy group that has an album coming out later this year, Toronto’s A&R, a band that was formed by accident and Sweet Fire, a fun-loving, jam-band that brought over 150 fans to cheer them on.

For a young group of guys that say that “they just like to play music together,” 40 Sons and Daughters has many accolades from opening up Ozzfest 2006 and meeting Ozzy Osbourne to being named Breakout Band of the Year at the 2006 Rogers Spring Music Festival. 40 Sons and Daughters say that they are ready for whatever may come next, but to them, winning this entire competition now feels closer than ever.
