Academy of Arts and Sciences Sues Oscar Scalpers

The Academy of Arts and Sciences is suing scalpers who are offering tickets to the Oscars at exorbitant prices. They filed a lawsuit on Monday claiming that McMurry Inc. are trying to sell $175,000 Oscar packages, which include a seven-day stay in L.A., luxury hotel accommodations, a sightseeing trip and tickets to the Academy Awards.

The Academy only gives non-transferable tickets out to pre-screened individuals due to the high risk of celebrity stalkers. People who buy tickets from scalpers may not realize that they would in fact, be trespassers. TMZ reports that the Academy claims the defendants are aware of the high security at the awards so the scalpers are doing their own screening for "celebrity stalkers and terrorists."
