Los Angeles, California—Bodog Battle's regional final elimination rounds concluded last night with the Los Angeles regional finals, which took place in Hollywood's hottest nightclub, the Avalon. And the winner? Seattle's Bekker, a five-piece acoustic, melodic pop group fronted by 19 year old, Matt Bekker.
Bekker's sound can most likely be compared to a John Meyer like quality of a mellower, melodic and easy to listen to guitar and drums driven pop. Once again, the range of musical genres appealed to the wide range of fans that came to support the musicians. For example, Fat Cat Swinger was a huge nine-piece swing band that had everyone doing the swing, while the Brian Stance band rocked the house with their take on country-rock, using an electric violin.
A surprise visit by last year's LA regional winners and runners-up, Blaxmyth was welcomed with much applause. Freak of Blaxmyth said that we can expect many new things to come from the group, especially being excited about new songs they've worked on.
After his win, Bekker explained that to make it to the show, he drove overnight from Seattle to Los Angeles, so despite being very excited to take the top spot, he was more excited to catch up on his sleep. He said no matter what happens in the next stage of the competition, he is just excited to have made it this far and is confident in his vocal and song writing abilities to take him to the top of the charts.
