Beowulf Tops Box Office

Medieval battlefield epic Beowulf debuted in the number one spot at the box office – with almost half of the $28.1 million ticket sales coming from 3-D theaters.
Starring Angelina Jolie and Anthony Hopkins, the interesting hybrid of live-action and animation was the largest release in modern 3-D history.
Jerry Seinfeld's animated Bee Movie slipped to number two with $14.3 million in its third weekend.
Denzel Washington-Russell Crowe drama American Gangster fell one to number three with $13.2 million, also in its third weekend. Its total stands at $101 million.
Holiday comedy Fred Claus, starring Vince Vaughn as Santa's older brother, slipped one place to fourth with $12 million in its second weekend, for a total of $35.8 million.
Opening in fifth spot with $10 million was fantasy drama Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium starring Dustin Hoffman as a toy impresario.
Two literary adaptations, both starring Spanish actor Javier Bardem, entered the top ten. No Country for Old Men, Joel and Ethan Coen's thriller, jumped eight places to seventh with $3.1 and Love in the Time of Cholera, an adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's tale of unrequited love, opened in tenth with just $1.9 million.
