Emphasizing the obvious - that reality TV contestants lack a little something upstairs - Dick Donato was voted the winner of Big Brother 8 by the people who reviled him for his tactics all summer. In a choice between two evils, the greater evil triumphed.

Dick won over his daughter, Daniele, in a 5-2 vote on Tuesday's finale of the hit CBS show. The outcome was an upset as reality TV bettors had made Daniele Donato, 21, the favorite with 2/3 reality TV odds. She declared "we won", indicating that she and her father would split the $500,000 grand prize and $50,000 second prize. The duo had not spoken for years before because of a dispute over money. But they became quick allies when put in the same house together with a large cash prize dangling in front of them.

The America's Player twist was revealed to the surprise of the houseguests, who did not know who was doing some weird stuff all summer or why. Eric Stein had been taking orders from the nation of viewers, many of whom were fans of the Donatos, helping the two of them get as far as they did. Dick, who held 3/1 odds, had been belligerent to his houseguests and was saved by the nation on at least one occasion. Dick, 44, said he plans to travel with the money.
