Big Win for \"Oprah's Big Give\"

Oprah's new reality show Oprah's Big Give proved to be a huge ratings success on Sunday night.

Critics such as Hollywood Reporter's Rich Raymond have panned the show, saying: "The first irony (but certainly not the last) that strikes one about the eight-week Oprah Winfrey infomercial Oprah's Big Give is that there is nary a single genuine giving moment to be found during the opening hour. It is instead a profoundly hyperkinetic and unwieldy adventure in product placement, in Oprah-as-Messiah hype and, ultimately, in what's so utterly fake and insidious about 'reality' television itself."

However, America has fallen hard for the tear-jerking give-fest -- awarding her show with the highest-rated program of the night, with 1.7 million viewers tuning in to the series premiere.

Oprah's show sees 10 people selected from thousands of hopefuls who are paired into teams, and each team is given a person's name, directions and a summary of the problem. Their mission is to help a stranger. Future episodes will include help from Jennifer Aniston and Scientologist, John Travolta.
