$3.5 million in donations makes him Scientology's biggest donor ever

It's called the Diamond Meritorious Award and for the second year in a row, the Church of Scientology has awarded it to Tom Cruise for his extreme generosity over the year.

The ceremony took place at the Church's UK headquarters in East Grinstead over the weekend, with Tom's pregnant fiancée, Katie Holmes, at his side. Actor John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston were also on hand to congratulate Scientology's Top Gun...as were 7,000 other devotees from around the world.

Madonna, who lives in London with filmmaker Guy Ritchie and her two children and is a devout Kabbalah follower, did not attend the gala event but had this to say in his defense:

"If it makes Tom Cruise happy, I don't care if he prays to turtles. And I don't think anybody else should."

Good God. If the Beat has to report on Tom Cruise losing his mind to his religion one more time...well, let's just say it pains us to no end and we're thinking of starting our own religion. Uhh...no.
