Hollywood's '90's hunk turned Looney Tunes actor Brendan Fraser has split from his wife of nine years, Afton Smith.

Canadian-born Frasure met writer/actress Smith at a Los Angeles barbecue in 1993, which was hosted by Winona Ryder, Smith's "Reality Bites" co-star. The couple, who now have three children together, have lived together in a two-storey, ranch-style house on the outskirts of Los Angeles.

Fraser, 39 and Smith, 40, confirmed they have ended their relationship in a statement on Thursday. Their representative Ina Treciokas said: "They continue to maintain a close and caring friendship."
