Canadian Women's Hockey Team Celebration Awesome

This probably wasn't a very good idea seeing how the Olympic committee has shown they can be pretty uptight after those  silly Scotty Lago photos surfaced, but the victorious Canadian team celebrated their gold medal win on Thursday with beer, cigars and champagne anyway. After beating the United States 2-0, the team stormed the ice with all their party gear, posing for pictures with cigars hanging from their mouths and taking swigs from an oversized bottle of bubbly.

With a gold medal hanging from her neck, Haley Irwin poured champagne into the mouth of Tessa Bonhomme, while goalies Charline Labonte and Kim St-Pierre  lay  on their stomachs with a giant bottle of champagne resting just above the Olympic rings on the ice. Sadly, Marie-Philip Poulin, who scored both  goals for Team Canada, was not able to get in on the boozing and was  only able to pose  smiling, as she  is not yet 19 (the legal drinking age in British Columbia).

The  IOC's executive director of the Olympic Games, Gilbert Felli, said  the team's on-ice partying  is "not what we want to see."

"If they celebrate in the changing room, that's one thing," he said, "but not in public."

So after the buzz wore off, Hockey Canada offered this statement:

"The members of Team Canada apologize if their on-ice celebrations, after fans had left the building, have offended anyone," the statement said. "In the excitement of the moment, the celebration left the confines of our dressing room and shouldn't have. The team regrets that its gold medal celebration may have caused the IOC or COC any embarrassment."

Canada's spirit will not be broken as  Olympic skeleton champion  (and known party animal)  Jon Montgomery  will be touting his  Canadian pride  when he appears on The Oprah Winfrey Show Friday.

"I tried to sell every bit of the Canadiana as I could," Montgomery told reporters. "I was certainly giving props to the good old folks north of the 49th Parallel and explaining to them why it is that I'm so proud to be from this greatest place on earth that we call home."
