Chelsea Clinton Engaged to Marc Mezvinsky

Twenty-nine-year-old Chelsea Clinton will marry her long-time love Marc Mezvinsky, an investment banker. Chelsea and Marc became friends within the DC circuit, as his parents, former Iowa congressman Ed Mezvinsky and  Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinksy served as Democratic Reps. Clinton and Mezvinsky also attended Stanford together and their friendship turned romantic in 2005.

Mezvinsky's father was released from federal prison last April after serving a sentence for his role in a Nigerian scam. ABC News reports that the Mezvinkskys were also close to Bill and Hillary Clinton and that Ed Mezvinsky used his connections to the Clintons and his son's relationship with Chelsea to persuade people to give him money to participate in the scams. Among those scammed was his mother-in-law.

The couple sent out an e-mail the morning of Friday, Nov. 27 saying: "We're sorry for the mass e-mail but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn't get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Chelsea & Marc."

Over the summer, false rumors swirled that they were getting married on Martha's Vineyard.
