Although no one knew it, Christian Bale attended the London premiere of The Dark Knight after allegedly assaulting his mother and sister the night prior. Bale knew he was to be arrested the next day.

Police held-off on arresting Bale after his mother and sister reported he assaulted them at London's Dorchester Hotel. Knowing he wouldn't be a flight risk, the police allowed Bale to attend the premiere of the Batman flick on the condition he return to the station for booking the following morning -- as they also told TMZ, they thought the crime was not serious enough for immediate arrest.

Bale was arrested and released early this morning. Details of what happened between Bale, his 61-year-old mother, Jenny, and his 40-year-old sister, Sharon, are not yet known.
