In tragic news today, former teen idol Corey Haim has died at the age of 38. It is believed the former actor died of an accidental drug overdose.

TMZ is reporting that Haim collapsed in front of his mother at her home. Haim was rushed to St. Joseph’s hospital in Burbank and was pronounced dead just a couple hours later. He had been suffering from flu-like symptoms though medications recovered at the scene were not related to his illness. His mother confirmed that he had been battling an addiction to prescription medications.

Born in 1971 in Toronto, Corey Haim shot to fame alongside Corey Feldman back in the late 1980s with the release of the teen film The Lost Boys. The pair grew to be best of friends and the two went on to star in a series of films including Dream a Little Dream and License to Drive. In 2007, the pair starred in an A&E reality show The Two Corey's where Haim and Feldman along with Feldman's wife lived together, but the show was canceled in 2008. Feldman had said he didn't want to work with Haim until he was free of his addictions.

In a 2004, Haim did a candid interview with The Sun newspaper, detailing his battle with drugs and admitting that he smoked his first joint on the set of The Lost Boys.

“I lived in L.A. in the Eighties, which was not the best place to be. I did cocaine for about a year and a half, then it led to crack,” he said in the interview.
