Could Dark Horse Kris Allen Win American Idol?

So it's down to three and American Idol handicappers are predicting that tonight, Danny Gokey will be out and the final two contenders will be Kris Allen and Adam Lambert will be dueling it out for the Idol title.

So here's the thing: It's all but been declared that Lambert will take home the win, but suddenly, Kris Allen is emerging as somewhat of a dark horse. He has this "aww shucks" sort of air about him as well as this sideways gape when he sings that chicks dig. And guess whose doing all the voting, folks? Fourteen-year-old chicks who have a thing for this acoustic guitar playing young man. Further, judges warned last night to beware of the "in-the-bag" factor. When everyone is under the assumption that someone will win, they're less inclined to vote.

Allen's performances last night were very strong, earning rave reviews for performing Kanye West's Heartless. And the guy who seemingly flew under the radar at the beginning of the show, is now finding his footing when he needs to the most.

However, there is no denying the power of Adam Lambert, who blew judges away last night with U2's "One" as well as Aerosmith's Cryin'. Lambert, although criticized by some (see: Bill O'Reilly) for his over-the-top style and stage prescense, he is the most confident, original and vocally gifted performer to hit the American Idol stage.
