It was '80's night on American Idol and Luke Menard (a.k.a Dawson) sang "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" (or is it "Jitterbug"?) by Wham.
Randy Jackson said, "It was a little bit corny for me, but it was all right."
"I didn't like it. I thought it was weak, a bit girly. There's no chance you're going to make it on," Simon Cowell said.
Favorite to win David Archuleta sang an awesome rendition of Phil Collins' "Another Day in Paradise." The judges seemed to like it, though Cowell warned that his song choices might be getting a bit "gloomy."
Daniel Noriega sang a pitchy version of "Tainted Love." Simon said "I thought it was horrible, the whole thing, absolutely useless."
Former stripper David Hernandez embraced the melodrama of Meatloaf. Randy said it was a nice song choice, though a little sharp here and there. Michael Johns sang "Don't You Forget About Me" and it was truly awful. For some crazy reason, the judges liked it. Evs. Randy compared him to Michael Hutchence, though we at The Beat, believe that was a Simple Minds songs and Wikipedia's got our back on that one.
Jason Castro sang a Leonard Cohen song. Simon told a relieved Jason that Jeff Buckley's version of that song is one of his favorite songs of all time and that what Jason did with it was "brilliant." Chikezie sang Whitney Houston's "All the Man That I Need," but changed to "Woman." When Simon found out, he poo-pooed it. Simon is jokes.
