ESPN 3D to Wow Sports Fans in June

Watch game play right in your living room - literally.
With 3D making a huge comeback, ESPN is jumping on the 3D bandwagon. Yes, sports fans will be ducking as the football comes careening out of the screen.

Hoping that it won't bomb  like Fox’s glowing hockey puck, ESPN 3D will launch  in June and will air a minimum of 85 live sporting events during its first year.

"This will be a meaningful step to drive adoption of 3D television sets and afford opportunities for our affiliates to create value through new product offerings, and our advertisers, who want fresh sponsorship opportunities," said  Sean Bratches, ESPN's executive vice president of sales and marketing.

The first sporting event will be aired on June 11 with the first 2010 FIFA World Cup match, featuring South Africa vs. Mexico. Other events to be produced in 3D include the 2011 BCS National Championship Game, Summer X Games NBA games, college basketball and college football.  ESPN has been testing the  3D technology for more than two years.
