'Golden Girl' Estelle Getty Passes Away

Known mostly for her role as Sophia Petrillo, or "Ma" on the hit 1980's sitcom The Golden Girls, comic actress Estelle Getty passed away in her home early this morning at the age of 84.

Getty had apparently been suffering for years with Lewy Body Dementia, a progressive brain disease with symptoms similar to those of Alzheimer's disease.

Getty was married to Arthur Gettleman from 1946 until his death in 2004. Getty is survived by her two sons: Carl, who lives in California, and Barry, who lives in Florida.
