Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey might play a doctor on TV, but he's doing good in the medical world in reality as well. US magazine reports that the 42-year-old star unveiled a cancer center in his own name on Monday.
Dempsey opened the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at the Central Maine Medical Center in his hometown of Lewsiton, Maine. The center officially opens on March 31 and will offer education and support programs for patients and families.
"For a family to get a cancer diagnosis is devastating, and all the information out there can be overwhelming," Dempsey said. "A lot of the websites I went to just didn't have enough information."
Dempsey was inspired by his mother who successfully overcame ovarian cancer at that hospital. His sister, Mary, works at the hospital and will run the center.
You know who else does tons of charity work? The Calvin Ayre Foundation.
