Hope for Haiti Raises $58 Million for Earthquake Disaster

George Clooney is being hailed as a hero after his brainchild, Hope for Haiti, has raised over $58 million for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. Organized in just one week by Clooney along with Haitian-American Wyclef Jean, the star-studded telethon featured performances by Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Coldplay, Rihanna, Sting, Jennifer Hudson  and Sheryl Crow. Other stars including Julia Roberts, Steven Speilberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Ben Stiller, Samuel L. Jackson and former president Bill Clinton, answered phones and delieved gut-wrenching monologues. Meanwhile, Anderson Cooper reported live from Haiti.

"This is a tragedy that reaches across all borders, all boundaries. It demands our attention, our help and our compassion," Clooney said. "The Haitian people need help. They need to know that they are not alone. They need to see that we still care."

Since its Friday night airing, Hope for Haiti Now has  raised the  most money  a telethon open to the general public has ever raised. The Hope for Haiti Now album is currently the number one iTunes download in 18 countries which inludes  Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris' rendition of  Hallelujah, Taylor Swift's "Breathless," Beyonce's "Halo," Madonna's "Like a Prayer" and more.
