A source close to this on-going saga told PEOPLE today that documents to initiate a legal split between Kate and Jon Gosselin were filed at the Bucks County Courthouse in Doylestown, Penn., Monday afternoon.

TLC, the network that miraculously turned these two nobodies into instant celebrities, is promising a "major announcement" about the family in Monday night's special one-hour episode of "Jon & Kate Plus Eight."

The Beat wonders if maybe the "major announcement" will be that this stupid show has been canceled effective immediately so that this coveted time slot can be awarded to another family whose story is at least somewhat interesting.   Jon and Kate who???

Eight kids...big deal. Does anyone out there agree that two douche bag parents plus eight kids don't necessarily warrant a television show? Gah. Bring back quality television. Please.
