Kanye West's Mother Dies in LA

Donda West, mother of rapper Kanye West died Saturday night in Los Angeles.

A cause of death has not been released and a family spokesperson has asked for anonymity until all family members have been notified.

Kanye and his mother were a close pair, often seen together at parties and awards shows. Donda was also a former chairwoman of Chicago State University’s English department.

In May, she published a book Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star, in which she paid homage to her famous son.

Donda West was working as chief executive of Kanye’s business enterprise, West Brands LLC and was also the chairwoman of the Kanye West Foundation, an educational nonprofit society that works to decrease dropout rates and improve literacy.
