Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes Split

Kate Winslet, who after five Oscar losses, finally earned her prize for The Reader in 2008, has filed for her divorce from  director Sam Mendes. Mendes and Winslet have been married since 2003 and they have a seven-year-old son together, Joe Alfie Winslet Mendes.

Mendes won an Oscar in for directing American Beauty.

A statement from their lawyers says: "The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children."

Winslet divoced director Jim Threapleton in 2001, whom she met while on the set of Hideous Kinky. She has  a daughter with Threapleton, Mia Honey, who was born in 2000. Winslet and Mendes met in 2001  when he  approached her about appearing in a play at the Donmar Warehouse Theater, where he was then artistic director. In 2003, the 35-year-old actress then  married Mendes on the island of Anguilla in the Caribbean and there has been no word on the reason for the split.
