The latest installment in the Twilight saga, New Moon is breaking records already. It has been verified that vampires definitely beat out comic heroes, as New Moon shattered the record held by Batman, by debuting to $72.7 million from 4,024 North American theaters on Friday, which breaks the single day records of $67 million held by The Dark Knight.
Nikki Finke reports, "Fandango tells me that New Moon was trending to sell more than 10 tickets per second on the site throughout the course of Friday. Both Fandango and MovieTickets.com said New Moon became No. 1 on their list of the Top 10 Advance Ticket Sellers of All Time (unseating the Batman, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings franchises)."
With critics panning the flick, which scored a measly 29% on rottentomatoes.com, young fans don't mind eating up the movie's cheesy pitfalls and shelling out $11 to see some shirtless vampire action.
Scott Mantz of Access Hollywood says, "The narrative is choppy, the pace is slow, it's way too long and, well, not a lot really happens."
However, this does not deter the tweens who want to know if the movie's stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are really an item off-set and are basically in hormone heaven as naked male torsos are paraded around on the screen - with some werewolf' and vampire drama thrown in for sauce.
