If you haven't already heard, Thomas Beatie is a woman who became a man 10 years ago, but opted to keep his reproductive organs.
Beatie, the transgender man who is six months pregnant, appeared with his wife Nancy on The Oprah Winfrey Show today. Beatie, 34, is expected to deliver a healthy baby girl.
Thomas Beatie told Oprah he was born Tracy Beatie and lived as a woman until his 20s. He even competed in the Miss Teen Hawaii USA beauty pageant.
"Growing up I really didn't have a perception of myself ," Beatie told Oprah Winfrey.
An obstetrician declared the pregnancy of Beatie "normal" and says the baby he is carrying is healthy.
However, last night David Letterman featured a Top 10 list on his show in which he labeled Beatie an "androgynous freak show," a comment many have found offensive. Although it should be noted the Letterman doesn't pen all his unfunny jokes. He has bad writers for that.
A blogger by the name of Shakesville suggests people contact CBS and complain:
"November 20th of this year will mark the 10th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, which is "set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice," either by violent action or apathetic inaction, as in the case of Robert Eads, a trans man, a year of whose life was documented in Southern Comfort, who died of ovarian cancer after two dozen doctors refused him treatment."
