Richard Gere Apologizes for Kiss

Richard Gere has issued a public apology for his shared kiss with Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty earlier this month.

Gere and Shetty were speaking at an HIV/AIDS awareness event in New Delhi and the Shall We Dance star tried to execute some dance moves that ended with a kiss. Amid a flurry of legal complaints by hard-line Hindu groups, a judge issued an arrest warrant for the two stars for violating obscenity laws.

Under Indian law, a person convicted of public obscenity faces up to three months in prison, a fine, or both.

Gere, who left shortly after the kissing incident, is a frequent visitor to India, promoting health issues and the cause of Tibetan exiles.

He has expressed his concern over the Indian media’s circus around this episode and wants the focus to shift to the eradication of HIV/AIDS and other preventable diseases in India .
