Shamed ex Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, now has a new set of apologies to issue. And yes, he just issued them. Blagojevich apologized this morning for what he called "stupid, stupid, stupid" comments he made in an interview Esquire magazine where he claimed that he's "blacker than Barack Obama."
In the interview, which hits newsstands January 19, Blagojevich claims Obama was elected based simply on hope.
"What the fuck? Everything he's saying's on the teleprompter," Blagojevich said. "I'm blacker than Barack Obama. I shined shoes. I grew up in a five-room apartment. My father had a little laundromat in a black community not far from where we lived. I saw it all growing up."
Today, Blagojevich explained what he meant to WLS Radio in Chicago, claiming he said he was "blacker than Barack Obama" metaphorically speaking. He said meant that he was sick of the way minorities are treated by the government, but that the comments were stupid and he was sorry.
"It's a stupid metaphor to say I'm blacker than Barack Obama, that I apologize for," he said. "It's not appropriate for me, a white person, to stand out somehow and claim to be a black person, that's just wrong. I was expressing frustration that the policies of this new administration still haven't really been focusing on the great deal of inequities we have in our society."
Blagojevich went on to say, "This administration is bailing out the banks, bailing out Wall Street crooks and ordinary people are not getting a fair shake. So while I apologize for that stupid metaphor, the frustration that I expressed is very real.
"I'm very sorry if I offended anybody by saying it the way I said it."
