A Swiss judge has granted bail for famed director Roman Polanski in exchange for $4.5 million. Polanski will go under house arrest and electronic monitoring at his chalet in Switzerland.

However, he's not a free man yet as the Swiss Justice Ministry is keeping Polanski in jail until they reach a decision on whether or not to appeal his release. They have 10 days to appeal.

Polanski was arrested in Zurich in September on his way to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. He had plead guilty in 1978 to having sex with a minor then fled to France. Polanski drugged, sodomized and performed sexual acts on 13-year-old Samantha Gailey, who testified that she repeatedly told Polanski, "no."

The 76-year-old Oscar-winning director, who holds dual French and Polish citizenship, was arrested upon the request of the US government. There is no word on whether or not Polanski will be extradited to the States.
