Sometimes people procrastinate. And Roy Smith is one of them. Thirty years after "Roxanne" hit the airways in a mind-blowing way, Smith is finally getting around to filing his lawsuit, which alleges that Sting ripped the ideas for his songs after a wild 7-Eleven night. Yeah, like Sting's ever gone to 7-Eleven.
TMZ reports that according to a police report filed by Smith, Sting heard him singing at Molly's Garden Restaurant back in 1977 or '78, thought he was good, and asked him to hang out. They went to 7-Eleven for beer, then went back to Sting's basement where Smith revealed fabulous stories about hooker's named Roxanne and messages in bottles. Smith claims that Sting agreed to give him royalties and even tried to contact him after the songs became massive hits - but that Smith's mother had not relayed the messages because she thought the real police were after her son.
Smith is not expected to win this case.
