Singing, dancing, Stephen King? Yes, the rumors are true. King has written the script for Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, with music by John Mellencamp.
The play will open at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre in April 2009, with the hopes to prepare it for the bright lights of Broadway. Mellencamp devised the plot, which is about the deaths of two brothers and a young girl in 1957.
King told the press, "I was in Florida, so John came down and told me the plot. It was kind of a ghostly thing, which is why he thought of me, I guess. I liked the story."
The project is described as "a sultry Southern gothic mystery with a blues-tinged, guitar-driven score."
The musical will be directed by Peter Askin, who directed Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
