The American heiress Martha "Sunny" von Bulow died today in the Manhattan nursing home where she had stayed while suspended in an irreversible coma that she entered 28 years ago.

In 1980 Sunny von Bulow was found lying in a bathroom of her mansion in Newport, Rhode Island.

She was married to an Austrian prince and then later to the Danish-born lawyer, Claus von Bulow. Claus von Bulow was convicted of twice attempting to murder her through insulin injections. His conviction was later overturned however, when it was shown that there had not been any insulin injections and that Sunny von Bulow’s symptoms could have been attributed to using too many prescription drugs. Claus Von Bulow currently lives in London.

After the overturning of Claus’ conviction Sunny von Bulow’s family maintained the belief that Claus had been involved in attempting to kill her.

Sunny von Bulow inherited her wealth when her father, utilities magnate George Crawford, died when she was only four. By the time she was 33-years-old her net worth was approximately $75 million.
