The oldest castaway in the history of Survivor, 58-year-old high school physics teacher Bob Crowley took the million-dollar prize. On the final episode, Bob was able to dodge a final bullet with the help of 29-year-old pin-up model, Jessica "Sugar" Kiper, whose vote at the final tribal council forced a tie between Bob and Matty Whitmore. Bob prevailed over Matty in the fire-making challenge - making Bob one of the three finalist eligible for the million dollars.

Interestingly, Sugar, who was never seen as a threat and her name was never written down at tribal, controlled much of the game and was responsible for orchestrating many of the blindsides. However, even at the finale, host Jeff Probst failed to mention how Sugar had an intricate role in the game, which she seemed to play on principle rather than strategy, ousting Crystal and then Kenny so that one of the "good guys" would win. Instead, Jeff asked her about how she'd become a celebrity with Survivor fans, which seemed like a throw-a-way question. Sugar's decision to not vote out Bob at the final tribal council to create a tie situation was the reason why Bob walked away with the million rather than Matty. However, Sugar had never really been taken seriously in the game, even though she held the immunity idol since the start.

One of the finale's most jaw-dropping moments was when Corrine unleashed a hate-fueled diatribe upon Sugar, who had lost her father shortly before the show began.

"You are an unemployed, uneducated leech on society. And the only thing I would vote to give you is a handful of anti-depressants so that no one else has to be subjected to your constant crying anymore. And maybe if you get some, then it would seem a little more sincere when you are crying about your dead father."

Needless to say, Corinne was booed at the live finale. The rest of the jury seemed to also share Corrine's loathing for Sugar. Bob's four votes beat the three votes received by 47-year-old hairdresser, Susie Smith, while Sugar was given zero votes.

“I just tried to play the game. My plan was to fly under the radar as long as I could, be necessary and be a nice guy so that people liked me,” Bob explained to Jeff after his win.
