Thrillers Top the Weekend Box Office

In a box-office battle of murder thrillers, Disturbia came out on top for the second straight week with a three day total of $13.5 million. The adolescent thriller stars Shia LaBeouf as a teen who becomes convinced that his neighbor is a murderer.
In second spot was Fracture, which stars Anthony Hopkins as a devious murderer who matches wits with a young district attorney played by Ryan Gosling. Its weekend take was $11.2 million.
The figure-skating comedy Blades of Glory, starring Will Ferrell and Jon Heder, held third spot with $7.8 million in its fourth weekend and crossed the $100-million mark.
Vacancy, another thriller which stars Owen Wilson and Kate Beckinsale as an unhappy couple marked for a grisly death, finished in fourth spot with $7.6 million.
Disney’s family comedy, Meet the Robinsons, held the number five spot with a weekend tally of $7.1 million.
The British cop spoof Hot Fuzz arrested the number six spot with $5.8 million, exceeding expectations, Ice Cube’s family comedy Are We Done Yet held number seven with $5.2 million and the female-centric drama In the Land of Women opened at number eight with a modest $4.9 million.
Halle Berryand Bruce Willis’ mystery Perfect Stranger held the ninth spot with $4.1 million and Wild Hogs rounded out the top ten at number ten with a weekend take of $2.9 million.
