More drama has erupted on the set of "Valkyrie," but this time, it has nothing to do with Tom Cruise being a Scientologist. 11 men fell off the back of a truck on Sunday night after a bolt on a side panel of the truck apparently came loose as the vehicle turned. They were taken to the hospital and all but one received outpatient treatment.
In "Valkyrie," excitable actor Tom Cruise is slated to play German officer Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, the anti-Nazi celebrated for unsuccessfully trying to kill Adolf Hitler in 1944 by hiding a bomb in his briefcase.
The people not impressed by Cruise's high-octane resume? The Germans. As it turns out, Germans would have preferred a different actor — perhaps one who does not belong to a freaky cult.
"Stauffenberg played an important role in the military resistance against the Nazi regime," a Ministry of Defense spokesman said, adding that "a sincere and respectful depiction of the events of July 20 is therefore very much in our interest. Tom Cruise, with his Scientology background, is not the right person for this."
According to reports, Tom was not on the set at the time of the accident. "Valkyrie" is slated for release in August 2008. In other Tom Cruise news, Suri has been sold to the Gap!
