Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will be scoreboard watching again Saturday as Democrats in three states vote for their favorite candidate in what is turning out to be a phenomenal race for the party’s presidential nomination.
Louisiana, Nebraska and Washington are the first states to vote after Super Tuesday only made a tight race even closer. Louisiana and Washington are primaries, meaning voters cast secret ballots, while Nebraska is a caucus, similar to Iowa, and features public voting.
Current estimates indicate Clinton has 1,033 delegates and Obama has 937 with 2,025 needed to win. There’s little chance either candidate will reach the necessary threshold this month or perhaps even next.
Obama’s groundswell of support has even reached the sportsbooks, where he’s now the favorite to win the nomination with Democratic nominee odds of 5/8. Political bettors had long believed Clinton would be the nominee. Her odds are now above even-money at 21/20.
John McCain has all but sewn up the Republican nomination and is at 1/25 odds to be named the GOP’s candidate. He and Mike Huckabee will be seeking votes in a Republican-only caucus in Kansas Saturday as well as in the three states where the Democrats will be fighting it out.
