Desperate times call for desperate attempts at humor.

Hillary Clinton’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live” three days before the fate of her presidential hopes could be decided has drawn lots of attention. Whether it will receive the desired result by the former first lady will be known on Tuesday when Democratic voters in Texas, Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island hit the polls.

A week ago, Clinton pointed out to reporters that an SNL skit had cleverly portrayed her as the victim of media bashing and her opponent, Barack Obama, as a media darling. This week’s episode started out on the same tack with Amy Poehler playing Clinton then the New York senator came out herself to give what was called an “Editorial Response”.

Clinton and Poehler then stood on stage alone and deadpanned out one-liners. Clinton said she wanted her earrings back and asked Poehler if she really laughs so loud. Then Clinton shouted “Live from New York, it’s Satuday night!” – the show’s famous opening line.

Clinton is also scheduled to appear on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart on Monday as she gobbles up as much free television time as she can ahead of Tuesday’s primaries. A loss in either Texas or Ohio could signal her departure from a race that she seemed destined to win at the beginning of the year.

An overwhelming betting favorite not long ago, Clinton now holds Democratic nomination odds of 5/1 to beat Obama and U.S. presidential odds of 8/1. Obama is at 2/13 to win his party’s nomination and 8/15 to be the next president. John McCain, the likely Republican candidate, is 3/2.
