After Heidi Montag lip synched, Kelly Rowland warbled off key and Flo Rider sang that song he always sings, Miss Venezuela was crowned Miss Universe for a second consecutive year. Eighteen-year-old Stefania Fernandez defeated finalists from Puerto Rico (Mayra Matos Perez), Dominican Republic (Ada Aimee de la Cruz), Kosovo (Droga Ganusha), and Australia (Rachael Finch) to earn the "Peace" crown for 2009. This is the second consecutive year Venezuela has taken the win, thus Fernandez received the crown from last year’s winner, Venezuela’s Dayana Mendoza.

During the question-and-answer segment, Fernandez said she believed women have overcome obstacles and are on par with men.

"I feel we have reached the level that men are at," she said.

Venezuela has won the Miss Universe pageant six times.

"I think this is the most beautiful group of women I've ever seen," pageant co-owner Donald Trump told reporters. "In the old days, you got what you got. Now, Trump picks them. It makes a big difference."
