Whoopi Goldberg Defends Roman Polanski

All of a sudden giving ludes and champagne to a 13-year-old girl and then sodomizing her isn't that bad - according to Whoopi Goldberg. Famed director, Roman Polanski, was on his way to receiving a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival when he was arrested on a 31-year-old statutory rape charge. In 1977, Polanski was 44-years-old when he drugged, sodomized, had oral sex and intercourse with a 13-year-old girl named Samantha Gailey. According to Gailey, she told him "no" and said "stop."

However, Whoopi Goldberg says what he did wasn't "rape-rape."

Whoopi said, "The language that we use here is very important, because, (rape) is not the allegation. I know it wasn’t rape-rape. All I’m trying to get you to understand, is when we’re talking about what someone did, and what they were charged with, we have to say what it actually was not what we think it was."

Later, Whoopi insinuated that perhaps America was too uptight about the whole drugging and having sex with 13-year-old girls thing, saying, "We’re a different kind of society. We see things differently. The world sees 13 year olds and 14 year olds in the rest of Europe. Not everybody agrees with the way we see things."

It seems as though people in Hollywood feel outrage over the arrest of Polanski. However, if this were just some dude off the street who had run from the law to evade kiddie rape charges, they'd be wanting blood.
