Will Smith Breaks Box Office Record With \"I Am Legend\"

Will Smith has done it again. The actor's latest movie, science-fiction thriller I Am Legend, opened in the top spot at this weekend’s box office, earning a record $76.5 million - the biggest December opening ever.

Smith is no stranger to dominating the box office. Last year's The Pursuit of Happyness debuted at number one with $26.5 million and his action films I, Robot and Men in Black II pulled in more than $52 million in their opening weekends.

Taking the number two spot at the box office, Alvin and the Chipmunks earned $45 million and last week’s number one, Golden Compass, slipped to third with $9.03 million.

Disney family movie Enchanted fell to fourth from second with $6 million. Its total take at the box office has risen to $92.3 million.

No Country for Old Men finished fifth with $3 million.

Rounding out the top 10 were The Perfect Holiday opening in sixth with $2.97 million, Fred Claus at number seven with $2.31 million, This Christmas was eighth with $2.3 million, Atonement was ninth with $1.85 million and August Rush finished in tenth spot with $1.79 million.
