Winona Ryder to Play Spock's Mom

Klepto-actress Winona Ryder has been cast to play the mother of Spock in an upcoming "Star Trek" film. Ryder will play Amanda Grayson, the human mother of the half-human, half-Vulcan, young Spock.

The film will be directed by J.J. Abrams and will be a prequel to the "Star Trek" series, taking place in the early days at the Starfleet Academy.

Thie film also stars Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy and Eric Bana as Nero, the villian. There is no word yet as to who will play Spock's Vulcan father, Sarek.
