Breeders' Cup Post Time Nears and Street Sense Can't Wait

Poor Street Sense.
He wins the Kentucky Derby and the horse racing world loves him. He falls a nose short in the Preakness Stakes and adoration falls on his chief rival, Curlin. He skips the Belmont Stakes and the national media forgets about him. Now, with the Breeders' Cup post time almost here, Street Sense isn't even the favorite among those who bet on the Breeders' Cup. Despite his long list of credentials, he's behind Curlin and Lawyer Ron, who are at 3/1.
The three-year-old thoroughbred has Breeders' Cup odds of 4/1 to win Saturday at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J. Thing is, this horse seems to be made for big-time races like the $5-million Breeders' Cup Classic. He is only one of 10 horses to win the Derby and Travers Stakes, and was the first Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner to seize the Run for the Roses.
In workouts leading to the Classic, Street Sense has been clocking around one minute over five furlongs with Calvin Borel aboard. His team is very optimistic that he'll steal the spotlight again. "I've got high hopes he'll pull it off," trainer Carl Nafzger said. "It's going to be exciting. These are the races you want to be in."
Also in the nine horse field are Hard Spun, Any Given Saturday and Tiago - all horses that participated in the Triple Crown.
