Crown of Thorns Out of the Running for 2008 Kentucky Derby

Due to an injury in his left front leg, Crown of Thorns will be taking several months off to recuperate, taking him out of consideration for the Derby. (AI Wire Image)
Richard Mandella (Crown of Thorns' trainer) made the announcement Wednesday morning.
Crown of Thorns was the winner of the Robert Lewis Stakes earlier this month at Santa Anita and one of the top contenders for the Kentucky Derby.
"He'll stay here for a while, then go to Mr. Hughes's farm in Malibu," Mandella said. "He has the beginnings of a saucer fracture. He'll be fine."
Although he’s in the Hall of Fame, Mandella has never won the Derby. His hopes now reside with another Hughes-owned colt, Into Mischief, the winner of the recent CashCall Futurity. Get all your Kentucky Derby odds in the Bodog Racebook today.
