Curlin Named 2007 Horse of the Year at Eclipse Awards

The winner of the $5 million Classic by 4 1/2-lengths was honored as Horse of the Year at thoroughbred racing's Eclipse Awards. The awards are determined by votes from members of the National Turf Writers Association, the Daily Racing Form staff and National Thoroughbred Racing Association representatives.

Curlin earned a landslide win, with 249 votes. Second place went to Rags to Riches, the first female in over a century to win the Belmont Stakes, scored just 12 votes. Invasor came in third with two votes. Rags to Riches however, was crowned winner for champion 3-year-old filly.

Awards in human categories were earned by Garrett Gomez (Jockey), Joe Talamo (Apprentice Jockey), Adena Springs (Breeder) and Shadwell Stable (Owner).

  • Indian Blessing: 2-Year-Old Filly
  • Rags to Riches: 3-Year-old Filly
  • Lawyer Ron: Older Male
  • Ginger Punch: Older Female
  • Maryfield: Female Sprinter
  • Midnight Lute: Male Sprinter
  • English Channel: Male Turf
  • Lahudood: Female Turf
  • Good Night Shirt: Steeplechase
