Del Mar Horse Racing: Cougar II Handicap Odds

In last year’s Cougar II Handicap Zappa won with ease against the semi-talented field. It will be hard for him to repeat this year because of the challengers he has to face in this year’s field. This year’s 57th running of the Cougar II Handicap for three-year-olds and up is a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” race, and will earn one horse a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Marathon at Santa Anita Park in November.
Ten are entered in the race and Zappa will be hard-pressed to repeat against the top-weighted Big Booster and Church Service. Big Booster will carry three pounds more than the 116 that Zappa will have. Church Service finished second in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Marathon, as well as in his last outing at the Gallant Man. Gangbuster will be ridden by J K Desormeaux and could surprise the field if he runs well.
