This Sunday the $250K San Diego Handicap will feature the return of the record-setting Dubai Cup winner Well Armed. Bred and owned by Kentucky's WinStar Farm, he could be joined in the 1 1/16-mile San Diego by stablemate Colonel John. The field should be around 10 horses by post time, but there are still a couple of entrants yet to be determined. Besides Colonel John there could also be Cigar Man, Informed, and Sir Dave.
Confirmed to run is the filly Life Is Sweet. She continues to avoid Zenyatta, and once again will run against the boys. She’s coming off a decent race where she finished a credible third in the Hollywood Gold Cup on July 11. Mast Track showed some old form in a fourth-place finish in the Hollywood Gold Cup, and will be a factor if he’s back to the condition he was in 2008 Gold Cup.
