Fair Grounds Opens Tomorrow
It's been fourteen months since Hurricane Katrina rolled through New Orleans, and decimated the venerable Fair Grounds. The time has come, the Fair Grounds now returns tomorrow for its 135th season.
It took more than a thousand workers to complete repairs on the historic Gentilly Boulevard site, where racing has ran through the ages since 1852. Officials are optimistic that this Thanksgiving Day opener could be the beginning of one of the greatest Fair Grounds meets in living memory.
An emotional moment will come on opening day when announcer John Dooley will request all those in attendance to observe a moment of silence for all the victims of this modern disaster.
With an amazing opening card set, and a forecast looking forward to sunny skies, and a high of 66 degrees, it should be a wonderful day.
