Kentucky Derby Winner Winning Colors Put to Rest

The 1988 Kentucky Derby winner Winning Colors was put to rest on Feb. 17 at Hagyard Davidson McGee vet clinic from complications of colic. At the time of her death the 23-year-old mare was in foal to Mr. Greeley.
"Winning Colors was always a champion," said Gainesway president Antony Beck. "She had great physical prowess and athleticism. She was one of my fathers' (Graham Beck) favorite horses, and everyone at Gainesway is saddened by her passing."
Winning Colors, was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2000, she was owned by the late Eugene Klein. She was bred in Kentucky by Echo Valley Horse Farm.
Winning Colors was purchased as a yearling for $575,000 at the Keeneland July sale in 1986, her career finished with a record of 8-3-1from 19 starts and total earnings of $1,526,837.
