Kentucky Derby Profile: Lawyer Ron

With all the top horses that have either fallen off the realm of Derby Contention, or simply faded into obscurity from lackluster performances, very few have consistently kept their position as one of the horses to beat... But Lawyer Ron has...
The strong and majestic Lawyer Ron, son of Langhfuhr, the Canadian champion sprinter in 1996. Owned by James T. Hines Jr, a Kentucky based businessman, Lawyer Ron was bred by Hines on his farm just south of Owensboro. With an interesting name, Lawyer Ron was named by Hines for his attorney, Ron Bamberger. Lawyer Ron is trained by Bob Holthus, a Nebraska native that has been training horses for more than a half century. This impressive 3-year-old colt has remained unbeaten on dirt, and has clocked some of the fastest times this year. With total career earnings of $940,800, Lawyer Ron has amassed 5 Stakes victories under his belt. Capturing the $100,000 Diamond Jo at Evangeline Downs, he easily dominated his competition by 8 ½ lengths, back in December.
His next win, the $268,000 Grade 3 Risen Star Stakes, where he earned an incredible 106 Beyer Rating, eclipsing the competition by 8 ¼ lengths, but he didn't stop there though, not by a long shot. Lawyer Ron continued to impress the racing world by capturing the $250,000 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park, and in less than 2 months from that race, he found himself all the more richer by taking the Grade 3 $300,000 Rebel Stakes, and the Grade 2 $1,000,000 Arkansas Derby. Some may call him Lawyer Ron, but with these wins I'm thinking "Oaklawn Ron" has a better fit.
Lawyer Ron has proved that he is a consistent, strong contender, and has easily earned himself as one of the Top 3 contenders for the Kentucky Derby Crown.
