One of the early Kentucky Derby favorites will be running in the $300,000 Rebel Stakes this Saturday at Oakland Park. The undefeated Old Fashioned will try to win his fifth straight against a familiar field. He began his 2009 campaign with a solid performance in the $250,000 Gr. 3 Southwest Stakes on Feb. 16, and has continued to put out good workouts like the bullet he posted at Oaklawn Park – 5 furlongs in 59 seconds – on Sunday, Mar. 8.

His biggest test will come from Silver City, who has finished no worse than third in his five career starts. Also a son of Unbridled’s Song, the W. Bret Calhoun colt finished second to Old Fashioned in the Southwest and will be looking to edge out his half brother this time around.
